A global semiconductor manufacturing company selected WorkCare to deploy an onsite program at two newly acquired sites with around-the-clock shifts. Our team integrated the client’s processes and procedures with our best practices. Implementation efforts included review and revision of nursing guidelines, implementation of WorkCare’s Incident Intervention telehealth triage program to support onsite staff after hours and on weekends, and collaboration with EH&S personnel to update the company’s blood-borne pathogen protection program. We also supported a transition from offsite to onsite medical exams and drug screening , saving time and money.

A casual restaurant chain with more than 4,000 employees across multiple states works closely with WorkCare’s team to intervene immediately in the event of a non-emergency work-related injury. After introducing our Incident Intervention telehealth triage program, self-care/first aid rates increased from 50 percent in 2013 to 68 percent in 2017 (within two years after implementation). For employees seen in a local clinic, WorkCare successfully performed physician peer consultations with the treating provider 90 percent of the time, with 32 percent of employees returning to regular duty, 55 percent returning with temporary activity restrictions and only 14 percent taken off work for one or more days. Other outcomes reported by the company include fewer disability days, more precise injury causation determinations, and improved employee confidence and trust in medical providers.

WorkCare has provided a leading international provider of engineering, construction and technical services with medical and consulting services for many years. The initial contract involved about 800 employees. We now collaborate with onsite EH&S team members to effectively manage medical exams, travel, telemedicine and expatriate programs for more than 90,000 employees around the globe, including war zones. WorkCare has operated a full-service onsite clinic at an expansive U.S. petrochemical construction site since 2016. As the project nears completion and transitions to production, we will adjust to meet changing needs. Our onsite medical director provides clinical leadership for a staff that includes occupational physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and paramedics/occupational health technicians who are crossed-trained in clinic functions. A regional account manager is responsible for all administrative and operational aspects of the client relationship. In addition to medical exams, first aid, care for routine medical complaints and emergency response, we support employee wellness and chronic disease programs. We also produce weekly health-related toolbox talks, posters and a clinic newsletter for the site’s monthly Health Workplace campaign.

WorkCare has been providing a major wholesale company with Family and Medical Leave Act and other absence management services since 2007, with an exceptionally high number of successfully resolved cases. We provide Incident Intervention telehealth triage services in compliance with regulations in the U.S. and Canada. WorkCare has created custom-branded training materials, reports and programs for each warehouse location. We also collaborate closely with the company’s other employee health and claims management partners to produce optimal outcomes.

WorkCare has been serving as this engineering company’s strategic global medical provider of occupational health-related services for employees deployed on international assignments since 2010. Services include customized laboratory baseline and exit exams, fitness-for-duty exams, vaccinations, and fulfilling record retention and immigration medical requirements. Our physicians also provide medical review officer services, technical medical advice, and consultation on wellness and health management policies.

In 2010, WorkCare entered into an agreement to provide an Incident Intervention pilot program to 550 employees of a utility company; within a year the program was extended to 20,000+ employees. The company reports significant related benefits including lower workers’ compensation claim costs, higher return-to-work rates, improved short-term and long-term disability case outcomes, and better employee satisfaction scores. Another utility company recently enrolled in WorkCare’s Bio-Ergonomic Surveillance program to provide enterprise-wide insights to minimize health and business impacts associated with over-exertion injuries, improve the company’s job rotation program and support return-to-work initiatives.

In 2010, WorkCare entered into an agreement to provide a mining operation with a consulting medical director, medical surveillance and onsite medical services, including emergency response. Incident Intervention telehealth triage and a robust drug testing program were subsequently introduced. WorkCare’s onsite staff provides assistance with first-aid services and treatment for occupational and non-occupational illness and injury. Although the mine is in a relatively remote location, WorkCare successfully places qualified onsite staff members who are supervised by the medical director assigned to this client.

WorkCare entered into an agreement to provide Incident Intervention services to an aerospace company in 2008 and added onsite clinic services at multiple locations in 2013. At one manufacturing site, the annual OSHA-recordable rate fell from 85 to 3 after the onsite clinic went into operation.

A consulting WorkCare medical director and an in-house industrial hygienist presented a successful respirable crystalline silica exposure prevention and management delivery model developed for the company at a major professional conference in 2019. Other collaborative initiatives include the development of protocols for the prevention and management of exposure hazards, drug-free workplace policies, emergency preparedness and response plans, and establishment of a case management and return-to-work program.

During business hours, we refer job applicants and employees to the client’s preferred collection site, or if there is no preference stated, a conveniently located facility. Alternatively, an onsite clinic (as available) or local collector with an in-house laboratory may be utilized. Collection sites are required to use approved testing kits containing chain-of-custody collection forms and instructions for completing the collection process.
